Writing

Like many editors, I started out as a writer. (So I truly understand how stressful it is to hand your manuscript over to an editor!)

During my university years I wrote poetry and short stories (when I wasn’t writing essays and cramming for exams) and had a surprising number of my creations published — for actual money! — which kept me in textbooks and Kraft Dinner.

And when I was first starting out as an editor, I wrote promo copy for books on Amazon.com.

For about a decade, I wrote on contract for UC Magazine at the University of Toronto, exploring issues like bullying, fashion, and hi-tech and producing feature interviews with prominent Canadian personalities like political satirist Rick Mercer and author Miriam Toews.

I’ve also written for CBC Sports, the Discovery Channel, the Toronto Star, Deutsche Welle Online, and CNIB.ca, among others, and my work has appeared in Grain Magazine, Seasons Magazine, Dandelion, Ms. Magazine, Xtra, and The Journal of the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport — to name just a few.

"Sterling edit—extremely thorough and excellent sense of humour to boot. Highly recommended."
